KANE STRANG OH SO YOU'RE OFF I SEE

We don’t know a great deal about Kane Strang, but with 'Oh So You’re Off I See' the New Zealand native has made his mark. Having signed to the consistently and increasingly reliable home that is Dead Oceans, this new cut is a crunching, Interpol-nodding example of Strang’s knack for the type of brooding alt. indie that has helped elevate Car Seat Headrest out of the bedroom and onto festival stages around the world. Indeed the newcomer, who, like the prolific aforementioned artist and label-buddy Mitski, came to attention through a DIY recording aesthetic, is now flanked by a band, helping bolster his lo-fi songwriting style into something more punchy and muscular. Somehow as infectious as it is intriguing, dark and gently melancholy, 'Oh So You’re Off I See' is instant proof that Kane Strang is set to flourish in a genre well-and-truly in the throws of renaissance. -G.O'B
